The “Veterans at the Library” met at the Franklin Memorial Library on Monday morning, January 30, at 9:15 for coffee and breakfast. With Chair John Tapley presiding, they had 38 in attendance. Discussed during the meeting was the planning of having a lighted Christmas tree at the "Patriots and 1st Responders Memorial Park" next year as part of the 2023 Wreaths Across America. Also, Chair John said the installing of new flag polls for the 14 flags along the fence, and also lights to shine on them during the evening hours, was developing and soon to be finished. Veteran Jim Dekle brought before the Veterans group a 100th birthday card for WWII Veteran Louis Graziano to be signed by each Veteran in attendance. Louis, during his time in the U.S. Army, fought at the Battle of Normandy as part of the Omaha Beach Invasion, and the Battle of the Bulge. Graziano is also the last known surviving witness for the surrender of the Germans to the Allied Forces in Reims, France, on May 7, 1945. Louis Graziano's 100th birthday is February 6, 2023.
