The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting Monday, February 2, at the Franklin Memorial Library at 9:15 a.m. Chairman Johnny Tapley presided over the meeting of 45 at-tendees. During the meeting, Emanuel County Recreation Director Jerry Lawson talked about the Emanuel County Recreation Department. Lawson said he first joined the department in 1978, working for Director Billy Carmichael, Woody Nasworthy and Ronnie Womack. For the last ten years, Lawson has been working with Director Tony Mangieri who continued what they originally started. Lawson then talked about the grants that have been awarded to the Emanuel County Commission and the projects that would be taking place this year and next year, including ballfields, gym, and the Olympic size swimming pool. He also talked about programs offered and participants that they had the previous year in each one. Lawson then talked about some of the programs they were wanting to add like kick ball, senior Olympics and pickleball. He then turned the program over to Jimbo Brown and Mitchell Hudson who talked about rules and regulations of the game of pickleball and they passed around the paddles and balls for demonstration purposes. Hudson is the assistant director and Brown is in charge of programs.
