Trucker injured in rollover wreck

A 62-year-old male from Milledgeville was airevaced to Augusta on Wednesday, August 18. He was operating an 18-wheeler, loaded log truck when the crash occurred on Highway 80 West at the US 1 Bypass.
At 12:03 p.m. , EMS, Swainsboro Fire and County Sheriff’s units responded to the scene. The Kenworth tractor and trailer were laying on its left side. The driver was still in the cab and unable to exit. Firefighters from Engine 200 and Rescue 1 removed the windshield from the Kenworth and assisted EMS medics with extricating the driver out on a backboard. EMS transferred the patient to the helicopter at the airport.
Highway 80 West was closed to traffic for a few hours while the Georgia State Patrol investigated the crash, and the load of logs were removed from the road and shoulder.
