Time to ‘Fall Back’

Posted

Did I oversleep? Oh no! What time is it? You can bet money some of us will be saying this on Sunday, November 2. This is when we will return to Standard Time. For the past six months, we have been enjoying Daylight Saving Time. This day is a bit confusing for many. Your smartphone automatically changes at 2 a.m., but the clock on your wall may confuse you for a few days if you don’t change it. We will ‘fall back’ in the United States, meaning clocks will be set back one hour.

The United States is not the only country to have Daylight Saving Time. DST is observed in most of Europe, most of North America and in Asia.

President Woodrow Wilson first made it law in 1918, but it was repealed seven months later. Though Franklin D. Roosevelt relaunched it in 1942, the time change wasn’t official until 1966, when President Lyndon Johnson signed a law to make the start and end dates of Daylight Saving Time uniform across the United States.
