Three students from Emanuel County Schools have been selected as the CSRA RESA’s region winners for their grade levels and are advancing to the state level of the Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition. The Young Georgia Authors (YGA) writing competition is a prestigious event that has engaged Georgia students for over two decades and is open to any student currently enrolled in Georgia public schools, grades K-12. The purpose of the competition is to encourage students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in writing, provide a context for celebrating their writing successes, and recognize student achievement in arts and academics.
Rowyn Mendieta, a kindergarten student at Swainsboro Primary School, is the region winner for her grade level with her work, “The Princess Bumblebee.” Lauren Kersey, a second-grade student at Swainsboro Primary School, is the region winner for her grade level with her story, “The Tale of Two Donkeys.” Benton Claxton, a third-grade student from Swainsboro Elementary School, is the region winner for his grade level with his work, “The Drummer.”
To enter the state-level competition, students had to win at the school, district, and RESA District levels. The competition is sponsored by the Georgia Language Arts Supervisors (GLAS) and the Georgia RESA Network with support from the Georgia Department of Education.
