Three injured in Highway 56 crash

On Friday, October 15, around 3:45 p.m., a crash occurred on Highway 56 North in front of the Summertown Store. Emergency units from EMS, fire and Sheriff’s Office were dispatched. First arriving units requested additional units to the scene. Swainsboro firefighters responded with Engine 200 and Rescue 1; EMS responded with three advanced life support ambulances. The crash involved a GMC Terrain and a Jeep Patriot. The Jeep overturned following the impact. EMS transported the driver of the GMC, Mary Hilliard, age 70, of Midville to the trauma center in Augusta. The driver of the Jeep, Zakara Walker, age 32, of Swainsboro and passenger Ricardo Gillis, age 49, were both transported to Emanuel Medical Center. Georgia State Patrol investigated the crash.
