The threat within

When Bernie Sanders graduated from college, he eventually found a job teaching five-year-olds in a Head Start program. That didn’t pay enough, so Bernie traded up for a job as a carpenter. That required skill, so still looking for something that suited him better, Bernie tried working in a psychiatric hospital. Surprisingly, he was still not satisfied. Finally, Bern found his true place in life. He got elected to a government job and at last found his “forever home”. Ever since 1991, he’s gotten a paycheck from the taxpayers. So, while Bernie certainly never was a posterchild for Junior Achievement, he was, in fact, an active and willing participant in the world of capitalism during his younger days. That soon changed. When Sanders heard the call of the progressive left and got his membership card from the Democratic Socialists, he became, for evermore, the leading proponent of government-funded everything. From cradle to grave, Bernie figured it all should be paid for with somebody else’s money. Eventually, the Bern was anointed as the Ayatollah of Socialism and wrote his first book which netted him a cool one million capitalist dollars. Now, in the dog days of summer 2026, the hottest thing since Taylor Swift’s wedding is the “Royal Family” of Socialism featuring High Priest Bernie, Prince Zohran (Free Ride) Mamdani, and Contessa Alexandria Cortezza. Out of nowhere, supporters of this group now include 216 elected state and national representatives, as well as over 160,000 card-carrying members of the Democratic Socialists of America. Other notable supporters include Abdul El Sayed, Rashida Talib, Ilhan Omar, Jerry Nadler, Yousef Rabhi, Francesca Hong, Claire Valdez, John Conyers, Cori Bush, Jamal Bowman, and Ayanna Pressley. How’s that for a good old-fashioned bunch of American patriots? Now, might be a good time to recall one of Abe Lincoln’s most quoted warnings. “The greatest danger to the United States will not come from countries abroad, but from the threat and danger within. CNN recently projected that over 20 per cent of likely Democratic voters plan to vote for DSA candidates in the November elections. Suddenly, an avalanche of rapacious socialists has mobilized and become the favorite topic in this election year’s media madness bowl.

The reports of the successful grass roots organization and funding efforts of this Socialist movement are hard to believe. Folks are astounded at the state of absurdity, now considered normal in the sphere of national politics. For example, take a look at the recently released policy platform of the Democratic Socialist of America party. A sample of key DSA proposals includes free government healthcare, free education/ tuition, free government run childcare, universal rent control, a 32 hour work week, the drafting of a new U.S. constitution, abolishing the Senate, eliminating the office of President and the Supreme Court, defunding police and prison systems, declaring free housing as a human right, establishing a free state of Palestine, abolishment of I.C.E., automatic citizenship and voter registration for everyone inhabiting the United States, abolishing all blockades, borders and customs regulations, eliminating all foreign aid to Isreal, and major reductions of military defense budgets.

The natural reaction to these proposals and the group that is advancing them is to consider the entire lot as illogical, dangerous, and unrealistic. If, however, this group and these proposals were to ever receive any serious level of validation or consideration, that would clearly constitute a fundamental threat to the resilience and stability of this country. A quick review of political experiments throughout history reveals a black hole when it comes to socialism. The list of failed socialist governments is long and dismal. Once again, let us remember that the strength of this nation has always relied upon the vigilance of our dream and the solemnity of our oath. Our Freedoms have never been free nor will they ever be, and the choices we make will always dictate the consequences. It is up to us, Bernie, and some things will never change.
