The Local Spotlight: Scotty’s Deer Barn

Posted

For this week’s spotlight, we highlight local business Scotty’s Deer Barn. Located in Norristown, this particular business holds a very established connection with local hunters that rein from Emanuel County and surrounding areas. Scotty’s Deer Barn has been providing hunters a place to take their deer for processing for more than a decade. Recently, The Blade had the chance to speak with deer barn founder Scotty Hall regarding the established business that has served the county for so long. Check out what Hall shared with us below!

Q: How long has Scotty’s Deer Barn been in operation?

A: We have been in business for the past 11 years and have always served from the same location.

Q: Has business been good this season?

A: Although each season may vary, I’d have to say that the 2021 hunting season has been a pretty average season. We’ve been blessed with some dedicated hunters and we appreciate the business received from hunters this season.

Q: Has Covid-19 had any negative effects on business operations for Scotty’s Deer Barn? If so, please give us some details as to how.

A: The effects seen from Covid-19 have played a negative factor for most business owners in some shape or form. For us, that negative factor has been an increase in supply costs. Due to price increases for needed products for operation, we have had to bump our prices up a tad bit but that hasn’t held the hunters back any. A lot of them needed to fill the freezers up as they do every year.

Q: What’s a fan favorite item at Scotty’s Deer Barn?

A: Our meatloaf, sausage and jerky are definitely fan favorites, especially the jerky – it’s like giving candy to kids and has always been this way.

Q: What do you believe keeps the customers coming back?

A: At Scotty’s Deer Barn, we offer great prices on meat products all processed in a clean facility. We have a great number of dedicated customers who are pretty much like family to us and we appreciate their continued support.

Q: If you had any advice to give to other small businesses, what would it be?

A: Don't open a deer processing business! No, I’m only joking. On a serious note, nothing happens overnight. You have to stick to it to make it in any business.
