The Exchange Club of Swainsboro held its regular meeting on May 5, featuring an informative presentation on local public safety advancements.

Guest speaker Courtney Terwilliger, Public Safety Director for Emanuel County, provided members with an update on the county’s upgraded radio communication system. Now in its final phase, the system has been in operation for several months, with only minor adjustments remaining as officials continue to refine its performance.

Terwilliger was joined by Foster Grimes, Emanuel County Fire Coordinator, who assisted in presenting recent progress within the county’s fire services. Terwilliger highlighted several grants awarded to the county fire service which have help fund the purchase of two new 3,000 gallon tankers and essential equipment, including fire hoses and turnout gear.

To conclude the presentation, Grimes conducted a live demonstration, showing how firefighters properly don turnout gear. As he suited up, Terwilliger explained the cost of each piece of equipment, underscoring the significant financial investment required to outfit personnel.

The presentation gave club members a greater understanding of the extensive planning, resources, and funding required to ensure effective emergency response services throughout Emanuel County.
