The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Franklin Memorial Library Monday morning, May 4, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, we had 35 in attendance. Joyce, Mary Ann and Lea Ann provided the outstanding breakfast for us this morning consisting of breakfast casserole, sausage, grits, fruit, sweets and all the trimmings and Shari Watt provided the orange juice, grape juice, cranberry juice, apple juice, and coffee. Chair Johnny talked to us about our upcoming Veterans Cup Golf Tournament and the selling of our "hole" sponsorships.
Chair Johnny and several of the veterans drove to Glenville to G & R Farms last Monday, and the company donated over 100 bags of Sweet Onions for the players in our Veterans Cup Golf Tournament to be held on May 16th at the Swainsboro Golf Course. Chair Johnny also talked about our upcoming "Memorial Day" event that will be held on May 25 at the Veterans and 1st Responders Memorial Park at 11 a.m. We will be dedicating two new 6' x 4' x 10" monuments. One is for the 32 Revolutionary War Veterans that are buried in Emanuel County and the other is for Rosie the Riveters and those that were part of the home team during World War II that supported the war effort in manufacturing. The Emanuel County Medical Center is feeding all the Veterans at 8 a.m. and this is the fourth year that EMC has treated the Veterans. Thanks to Damian Scott and all the medical staff.
