Kennedy Funeral Homes announces the death of Sylvia Corbitt Hooks, age 82, of Swainsboro, on Monday, May 4, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah Funeral Service will be Thursday, May 7, at 11 a.m. at Hooks Chapel – Kennedy Funeral Home with Interment to follow at New Hope Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Lexsy with Elder Craig Lanier and Elder Will Martin officiating. Family will have visitation Wednesday, May 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hooks Chapel - Kennedy Funeral Home in Metter.
Pallbearers will be Jones Hooks, Dr. Mack Bird, Al Mauldin, Andy Dixon, Ed Daniels, and Shannon Mason.
Sylvia was born June 23, 1943, in Brunswick, to Lige Alston and Eloise Olive Corbitt. She grew up in Willacoochee, GA and her family moved to Nashville, GA where she graduated from Berrien County High School. Sylvia attended Young Harris College in North Georgia and then pursued X-Ray Technician training in Macon. In 1963, she married Donald Jordan Hooks of Swainsboro, and they spent 50 years together before Donald’s passing in 2013. Sylvia supported the family businesses of Hooks Milling Company and Hooks Secure Storage, was a member of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church, and above all, a dedicated Mother. Whether you knew her by “Miss Sylvia” or “Maw Maw”, she made a lasting impression on all she met and will be remembered for her captivating personality. Mrs. Hooks is preceded in death by her mother, Eloise Olive Corbitt (1994); father, Lige Alston Corbitt (2003); husband, Donald Jordan Hooks (2013); brother, Joe Robert Corbitt (1976), and sister, Teena Corbitt Mauldin (2020).
Mrs. Hooks is survived by three daughters, Donna Hooks Turner (Mark Turner) of Evans, Missy Hooks Sennowitz of Athens and Starr Hooks Horn (Dr. Thomas Horn) of Savannah; son, Donald Jordan “Judd” Hooks Jr of Atlanta; brother, Lige “Boots” Corbitt III of Dublin; sister, Theresa Lovein of Nashville, GA; seven grandchildren, Stephen Turner (Sally), Wesley Turner (Caroline), Jordan Sennowitz, Anna Sennowtiz, Lexi Sennowitz, Skye Horn and Logan Horn; four great-grandchildren, Layne Turner, Sam Turner, Eloise Turner and Margot Turner; nine nephew; and nine nieces.
