The Kiwanis Club of Swainsboro held its weekly meeting on Tuesday, June 1, at 7 p.m. at The Rustic Grille. With President Dess Smith III presiding, there were 30 in attendance, including four guests, Mark and Terry Sweat, Circle K'er Breana Librizzi and Division 17 Lt. Governor Dennis Donahue.

The red velvet cake, donated by Tracy Mason and baked by Petite Garrett, was won by Mary Ellen Smith. The Domino's pizza, donated by Domino's Pizza, was won by Jim Daughtry.

Division 17 Lt. Governor Dennis Donahue gave information about the Georgia District raffle and advised that he bought the first ticket from both Swainsboro and Dublin Kiwanis Clubs. He announced that Club Leadership Education (CLE) training for new club officers will be held on either July 17 or July 31. Registration for CLE training can be found on the Georgia District of Kiwanis website.

The program for the evening was hosted by Jim Daughtry. He introduced Mark Sweat, retired Emanuel County middle school teacher and semi-retired Baptist minister. After 31 years of teaching, Sweat probably had many stories to tell about that time, but he focused on memories of his life and interactions with his wife, Terry, his feist, Liz, and his old pickup truck. He talked of the time he and Terry met as students at Georgia Southern and their adventures while trying out a used car with a dead battery and a rooster attack on his car. He talked of the adventures he and Liz had cleaning up some land for retirement and rides in the old, rusty pickup.
