Swainsboro takes over “The Jungle”, blows out Metter

After an offseason of anticipation, it was finally time. It was time to get out there and prove they were ready to begin another title chase. The Swainsboro Tigers traveled to Metter for the season opener for the fourth consecutive season. The Tigers’ offensive is so explosive because they have so many running backs that can break off big plays at any time, and they showed that big play capability this night. They ran wild for a total of 429 yards and five touchdowns. Jordan Williams was the leading rusher with 179 yards on 11 rushes with three touchdowns. Quarterback Kason Edenfield went 4-9 with 35 yards passing while throwing an interception in the affair. The defense was dominant, same story as last year, allowing only one touchdown and scoring a touchdown of their own. Jerrod Steward had an interception and returned it for a touchdown. The Tigers ran away with this one winning 39-7. Head Coach Scott Roberts was proud of the performance saying, “Our guys came out and played with great energy. Defense and special teams played really well in the first half. Offensively, we had too many undisciplined penalties that stalled drives in the first half but played much better in the second half. We had some young guys improve a lot from the scrimmage. We've just got to continue to get better every week.” The Tigers will look to improve to 2-0 next week as they host Washington County in the first regular season game at “The Den”. Come out and support this great group of kids as they rep this town on their jerseys!
