Swainsboro High School is now accepting nominations for its Athletic Hall of Fame, which recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to SHS athletics as athletes, coaches, or community supporters.
Athlete nominees must have participated in athletics at Swainsboro High School and graduated at least seven years ago. Coaches must be at least five years removed from their coaching role at SHS. Community members or boosters may be nominated at any time. All nominees are evaluated on achievement, character, citizenship, and their overall impact on Swainsboro High School athletics. All nominations are considered without discrimination.
The selection committee includes school administrators, current coaches, Booster Club officers, a Hall of Fame inductee, and a community representative.
Nomination forms are available at Swainsboro schools, the Emanuel County Board of Education, and the Swainsboro High School Facebook page. Since its inception, the Swainsboro High School Athletic Hall of Fame has honored numerous individuals whose legacies continue to inspire Tiger Nation.
The inaugural class of 2012 included James White Sr., Bill Hammock, Johnny Garrett, Jerry Lawson Sr., and Dr. Betty Brown. The 2013 inductees were Desse Davis Sr., Tony Fagler, Harry Martin, Bill Schofill, and Ed Schwabe Sr. Those honored in 2014 included Bob Roberts, Danny Henry, James Harper, and Carolyn Parrish Pittman. The 2015 class recognized Mary Lou Garrett Brooks, Greg Waters, Fletcher Young, Bobby Sasser Sr., and Bill Upchurch. Inducted in 2016 were Bobby Andrews, Barry Young, Allen Johnson Jr., Sylvia Hooks Durden, Bill Sasser, and Barbara Stokes. The 2017 class included Frank Wimberly Sr., Susie Bennett Wilson, Elaine Parrish, and Donnell Hodges. Honorees in 2018 were David Bright, Milton Gray Jr., Yvette Mercer, and Jack Creswell. The most recent inductees in 2019 included Samuel Daniels, P.O. Youmans, Herbert Hodges, and Judy Bennett Garrett.
