Members of Swainsboro Exchange Club convened for their regular Tuesday meetings on August 24, August 31 and September 7. The three regularly scheduled meetings were held at The Rustic Grille and featured presentations by Jay Youngblood, Congressman Rick Allen and Emanuel County Schools Superintendent Scotty Hattaway, respectively.

During the August 24 meeting, Youngblood spoke to exchange club members about his work with area school chess clubs and the promotion of student involvement. Additional information on student participation in local chess clubs can be obtained from school administrators.

The August 31 meeting welcomed Congressman Rick Allen, who provided the latest update to exchange club members.

On September 7, Superintendent Hattaway updated the club on upcoming voting opportunity for Educational Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST).

E-SPLOST is a one-cent sales tax on all retail purchases. This means that everyone who makes a purchase in the school district county, including visitors, contributes towards the support of local schools. By law, an E-SPLOST can only be used for certain capital projects, such as buildings, furnishings, computers, and buses. SPLOST funds cannot be used for the day-to-day operational expenses of a school district. More information on E-SPLOST and how the funds have positively impacted Emanuel County Schools can be obtained by contacting the Emanuel County Board of Education.
