Stillmore Ladies Club utilizes library history, genealogy resources

Posted

The Stillmore Ladies Club enjoys the use of Franklin Memorial Library's local history and genealogy resources for a project they are working on at Stillmore Cemetery. They have found a few dozen unmarked graves that they are trying to identify. Their goal, after identifying the graves, is to order markers for each grave, costing about $100 each. This project was originally dis-cussed in February 2020, but the Covid virus delayed things until recently. The ladies club has already identified 16 graves and ordered markers for each. There are about 20 graves left to identify.

Franklin Memorial Library has excellent resources available to the public. The book written by Moses M. Coleman, Jr. is called "Cemeteries of Emanuel County Georgia" and was published in 1998 (copyright by the author). The library has two copies available along with a book called "Confederate Graves of Emanuel County, Georgia" by John Michael Ridgdill, Sr. (copyright 2009 by the author).
