Smith speaks to Wiregrass

The Wiregrass Chapter, Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution, held its monthly meeting Thursday night, September 14, at the New China Restaurant at 6:30 p.m. With Vice President Steve Burke presiding, there were 22 in attendance. Compatriot Dess Smith III presented his program on the "Battle at Ninety-Six" a revolutionary War Battle. Even though Light Horse Harry Lee captured the "Stockade", General Nathaneal Greene decided to not continue the battle after 22 days because of the 2,000 British reinforcements soon to arrive at Ninety-Six. Soon after, the British abandoned the 2,000 Compatriot Tommy Christopher was presented his first Patriot Supplemental Ancestor Certificate for his Patriot Thomas Farnsley Lovett. Compatriot James "Jim" Ivy Dekle was presented his Vietnam War Veterans Corps Certificate for his military service. DAR member Judy Womack received her late husband’s, Fred Darwin Womack, Military Service Veterans Corps Certificate for his military service. Compatriot Joel Josephus Moring, Jr. was presented his Military Service Veterans Corps Certificate for his military service. At the end of the Chapter meeting, Judy Womack drew the winning ticket for the Shotgun drawing. All proceeds will be used to purchase Revolutionary War British uniforms that will be loaned out during events so they will have British soldiers. Glenn Briercheck of Swainsboro held the winning ticket.
