Swainsboro High School has named Dwight Smith as its new Head Football Coach, recognizing his leadership, experience, and commitment to student-athletes and the Tiger tradition. A 2007 graduate of Swainsboro High School, Smith brings 15 years of coaching experience at both collegiate and high school levels.

Before returning to Swainsboro High School, Smith spent five years coaching at the collegiate level, including stops at his alma mater, Middle Tennessee State University, where he coached defensive tackles and assisted with defensive ends, and at Valdosta State University, where he served as defensive line coach. Since 2016, he has been Swainsboro’s Defensive Coordinator, Strength and Conditioning Coordinator, and Head Track and Field Coach, leading the program to competitive success while building strong relationships with students, staff, and families.

“Coach Smith has demonstrated exceptional leadership throughout his time at Swainsboro High School. His commitment to students, strong communication with staff, and ability to connect with families made him the clear choice to lead our football program.” said Principal Rob Gray.

Smith describes his leadership style as relationship-driven, emphasizing high expectations and a people-first approach. His goals include strengthening the student-athlete model, increasing engagement with younger students, and developing athletes of integrity who excel academically, athletically, and as community leaders. Smith holds a degree in Physical Education, Behavioral and Health Sciences. He and his wife, Lindsay O. Smith, have two children, Bailey and Bryson.

With strong ties to Swainsboro High School and a clear vision for the future, Coach Smith is ready to lead the Tigers into the program’s next chapter.
