Two Swainsboro High School students proudly represented their school, showcasing their musical talents at the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) District 10 Honor Bands.
Kylee Farley and Grayson Brassell earned their places in the honor band by navigating a rigorous audition process held in December. The auditions drew hundreds of student musicians from school districts across the region, making their selection a remarkable achievement and a testament to their dedication and skill.
Both students performed on Saturday, February 7, at Augusta University’s Maxwell Theatre. With only 12 rehearsal hours over three days, they collaborated with top District 10 musicians to prepare for the concert.
Brassell claimed the second-highest trumpet placement in the 11th–12th grade honor band, while Farley was recognized as the eighth-best trombone player in the same ensemble, showcasing both achievement and musical excellence.
Clinician Mr. Everette Cannady led the 11th–12th grade band. In honor band settings, a clinician, an accomplished guest conductor and music educator, works directly with the selected students during rehearsals, refines their performance, interpretation, and musical technique, and leads them in the final concert.
Their achievements highlight not only their individual dedication and talent but also the continued strength of the Swainsboro High School music program. Congratulations to Kylee Farley and Grayson Brassell for representing SHS with excellence.
