SHS Seniors win local speech contest

Seniors Caleb Long and Quintus Williams are the first and second-place district winners of the annual Preston Johnson Speech Contest sponsored by the Swainsboro Rotary Club. They were presented cash prizes by Rotary members Jessica Peebles and Tanya Lane. Long won $1000 for first place and Williams won $500 for second place. They won the preliminary round held at SHS on March 6, then completed against the top two speakers from the other county high schools on March 11. They will move on to the zone/regional competition to be held on March 30 in Milledgeville.
