Senior basketball standout Lavaris “LJ” Morgan signed a letter of intent to continue his academic and basketball journey at Andrew College. This move is the culmination of four years of hard work on the court for the SHS Tigers. For the next four years, he will remain a Tiger at the private institution in Cuthbert, Georgia.
LJ played shooting guard on the varsity level all four years, making an immediate impact as a freshman in 2023 by helping lead the team to a final four run. Averaging nine points per game off the bench, he ranked among the top four scorers and earned All-Region Honorable Mention. Building on this success, he became a starter as a sophomore and maintained that role for the next three years, which earned him Second Team All-Region honors. His junior year marked another step forward as he averaged 13 points per game and earned First Team All-Region for the first time.
In his senior season, LJ took on a leadership role, reflected in his statistics: 19 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, and several steals per game. He also surpassed 1,100 career points, a milestone that Assistant Coach Derrick Jones noted as a goal LJ set from day one. This outstanding performance earned him First Team All-Region honors for a second time. Head Coach Brice Hobbs reflected on LJ's growth, sharing, “Coaching someone like LJ is every coach's dream because when the game is close at the end, you want to put the ball in his hands.” The highlight of LJ’s achievements was celebrated during a signing ceremony in the Swainsboro High School Media Center, where he was joined by his parents, Sirron and Jennifer Terry, his sister Jada Murphy, teachers, administrators, coaches, and teammates.
