Members of Seedling Garden Club gathered at Emanuel County Nursing Home on Thursday, April 16, to plant flowers and vegetables. Using a red, white and blue theme, the planters leading into the nursing home was planted with Red Vinca plants, White Vinca plants and Blue Salvia. This theme was chosen to celebrate America's 250th birthday, "Let's plant red, white and blue in Georgia Style." American flags and special 250th birthday flags were added to planters for a special touch of Patriotism.
The raised vegetable garden beds were planted with different vegetable plants. With the advice of a nursing home resident, David Smith, the beds were filled with new soil and fertilizer. He loves to garden. The beds are high enough for handicapped residents to reach. They enjoy watching the vegetables grow and produce fruit.
The Seedling Garden Club is happy and blessed to be able to bring a little of God's beautiful world to those that are unable to get out and see. We feel this is a very worthwhile "Garden Therapy" project. We were delighted to have Lilah Riner, daughter of Margo Riner, help with these plantings.
Special thanks to Missy Mills, nursing home activities director, for her help with this project. She did a great job of cleaning out vegetable beds before we got there.
Club member, Nancy Lisenby, served as chairman of this project, and we plan on keeping a close eye on the progress of our labors.
