Seedling Garden Club holds auction

On a very, very, cold night, Seedling Garden Club held its annual auction. The club met on Monday, November 10, at the Swainsboro First Methodist Church. Seventeen members and four guests braved the cold and attended this fun event.

President Kay Peacock called the meeting to order, welcomed everyone and gave an inspiration. First, she read, "A Garden Eastward in Eden", asking the Lord did He have the same troubles in Eden as we have with our gardens. She then presented a devotional titled, "Plentiful Refreshment." "Their souls shall be like a well-watered garden," Jeremiah 31:12. When a garden becomes parched for want of water, and then it starts to wither, it ceases to be a garden at all; nothing can come to perfection, grow or even live. But when irrigation is kept up, the result is charming. The Holy Spirit waters one's soul just like a garden. Our prayer is, "Lord, water us today, and cause us to yield You a full reward."

A short business meeting was held with the following reported: Treasurer's report by treasurer Wanda Ellis and minutes from last meeting by Secretary Cheryl Goodman. Both were approved as presented. Yonna Bailey, Yard of the Month chairman, reported that the Yard of the Month went to Debra Rich. Her yard is always so pretty, and she is also a former member of the club. Nancy Lisenby reported on the planting at the Emanuel Nursing Home. Nancy Lisenby, Dot Kirby and Wanda Ellis planted the concrete containers with Pansies. This is an ongoing project with the club.

After the business meeting, the fun began. Each member took an auction item for the auction. The club was grateful for this year's auctioneer, Rev. Joe Bedgood, Pastor of Dellwood Baptist Church, married to Michelle Bedgood for 27 years, has two children and owner of ‘The Cakery on the Square’. He did a great job auctioning and entertaining the group and keeping the bidding going. We are grateful he took time to help us with our only fundraisers. We had a great time bidding against each other (of course in a very friendly manner.) Monies raised go to help projects of The Garden Club of Georgia, Oleander District and Local projects to promote Beautification, Conservation and Education.

The theme chosen for the auction this year was Pizza Party/Auction. The serving table was covered with a red and white checked cloth. Adoring the center of table was a Tuscan Urn holding bold sunflowers. Decked on either side of urn, red candles were placed in wine bottles and topped with grapes. The group enjoyed a variety of pizza, salad, olives, cupcakes and soda. The club officers served as hostesses for the meeting, including Kay Peacock, Lucille Braswell, Cheryl Goodman, Wanda Ellis and Paula Karrh. Our photographer, Wanda Scarboro, took some great pictures of the event.

The meeting ended with those sitting at unknown marked chairs being surprised to know they had won a bottle of Infused Olive Oils by Melina Brown of "Infused and Rooted". Leaving with all their prized auction items, president Peacock wished all a Blessed Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas. The club will meet again on January 12, 2026.
