Seedling Garden Club cultivates joy at Emanuel County Nursing Home

The Seedling Garden Club has been busy growing more than just flowers this season – they’ve been cultivating community, purpose and joy at the Emanuel County Nursing Home. Earlier this spring, members of the Seedling Garden Club came together to help the residents plant a community garden, helping them sow seeds and plant young vegetables including cucumbers, squash, tomatoes, peas, peppers and okra. Thanks to their dedication and a little sunshine, the garden has flourished, producing a generous harvest of fresh vegetables for the residents to enjoy. One resident in particular, Mr. David Smith, has lovingly taken on the daily care of the garden, helping tend the plants and ensuring they continue to thrive. His hard work and green thumb have played a big role in the garden’s success. Mr. Smith says he sings to the garden. He sings the hymn “In the Garden” and enjoys watching it grow. He says he is thankful for it and thanks God for his blessings on it. Emanuel County Nursing Home Activities Director Missy Mills stated, “The residents absolutely love our garden. Watching something they planted grow into a harvest they can enjoy creates a tremendous sense of pride and accomplishment. It keeps them active, engaged and connected to memories of home and family.” Residents were thrilled to be able to enjoy these vegetables as directors fried up their harvests last week for fresh fried squash and zucchini. The Seedling Garden Club is proud to support projects that beautify the community and enrich the lives of others, and this garden has proven to be a fruitful example of what can grow when people come together with caring hearts.
