Second annual Freedom Fest a success

“I love how no matter what you’re doing or how old you get; you still stop everything and look at the sky the moment you see fireworks.” Brittany Hall wrote Saturday after sharing this photo she took of her son, Nolan, as he stared in awe at the red bombs bursting in air during Saturday evenings fireworks show in Downtown Swainsboro. 9-year-old Nolan is the son of Forest Blade Editor and Journalist, Brittany Hall, and Stephen “Kyle” Williams of Swainsboro. Together, the family enjoyed the festival especially seeing the joy it brought to their sons’ face. From eating snow cones, to spraying Sheriff Brewer with a water gun, to dancing until the sun went down and ending the night with a phenomenal fireworks show, Nolan says, “I will never forget it!”

The Swainsboro Jaycees hosted the second annual Freedom Fest in Downtown Swainsboro on Saturday, July 1. This year’s event was the first that the red, wet, and blue parade was held on North and West Main Street. In a recent post, the Jaycee’s thanked the many local businesses and sponsors for their collaborative effort in making July 2023’s Freedom Fest a success:

“Thank you to our sponsors the Swainsboro-Emanuel County Chamber, the Pine Tree Festival & Southeast GA Timber EXPO, Daniels Chevrolet, Buick, GMC Trucks Inc. and The City of Swainsboro. Thank you to the Swainsboro Downtown Development Authority for handling the vendors and food trucks. Thank you to Clearwater for their services in keeping the city clean and well lit. Thank you to Swainsboro Police Department for keeping us all safe and controlling our parade crowds with your water guns. Thank you, Swainsboro Fire Dept., for cooling us down with Ladder 7, the splash pad and the Firewatch during the fireworks. Thank you to Citizens Bank of Swainsboro for sponsoring this year’s Downtown Get-down and all of the wonderful talent that played at the Boneyard last night. Thank you to our fireworks firing crew James Anthony Ward, Jamey Chalker Darren McGee, Josh Bedgood and Travis Bishop. Surely lastly but not least THANK YOU citizens of Emanuel County for showing up and showing out. We had a blast, and we hope you did too.”
