SAR, DAR and CAR members traveled to Kroc Center

SAR, DAR and CAR members traveled to Augusta on Saturday, September 16, to participate in the 2nd Siege of Augusta event and 242nd Anniversary Celebration that happened during the American Revolution in September 1781. The event this year, sponsored by the Colonel William Few Chapter, GASSAR and the Henry Laurens Chapter, SCSSAR, was held at the Knox Center at 1 p.m. Compatriot Sonny Pittman, Senior Vice President, SCSSAR and the Event Coordinator & Master of Ceremony, welcomed everyone to the event. Commander Bill Palmer of the Combined Color Guard advanced the Colors and after the Pledge of Allegiance and the SAR Pledge, the Color Guard posted the Colors. Greetings were brought by both the GA and SC SAR, DAR and CAR organizations. Steven Rauch, Military Historian, then presented his program on the "Second Siege of Augusta" during the Revolutionary War. After Steven's presentation, the presentation of the wreaths was held by over 50 organizations. Commander Bill Palmer of the Combined Color Guard then ordered Retrieve the Colors. Taps was played and then he ordered "Mourn Muskets" to honor those brave Revolutionary War Patriots. After the benediction, everyone moved outside for the battle reenactment in the field behind the Kroc Center by the Brier Creek Militia, Elijah Clarke Militia, East Fall Line Continentals and the Brier Creek Artillery. The British Force was commanded by LTC Brown (Steve Burke) with 15 infantry men and two six-pounder cannons while the Patriot Force was commanded by General Andrew Pickens (Alton Reynolds) and Colonel Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee (Alton McCloud) with 20 infantry men, two six-pounder cannons and one eight-pounder cannon. AND the Patriots WON again.
