Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. Roger Ray Peebles, Sr., age 86, of Swainsboro, on Friday, May 5, 2023, at Emanuel Medical Center. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 9, at 2 p.m. in The Church of The Good Shepherd Episcopal Church with Father Steve Larson and Pastor Sonya Clifton officiating. The family received friends following the service.

Honorary Pallbearers were the members of the Swainsboro Kiwanis Club.

Mr. Peebles, was born January 1, 1937, in Swainsboro, to the late Mason Allen and Mary Murphy Peebles. Roger was a lifelong resident of Emanuel County and a graduate of Swainsboro High School, Brewton Parker College and Georgia Southern University. He met the love of his life, and wife of 61 years, Mary Ann Peebles, when they both worked at Black's Pharmacy. Roger served as a member of the Georgia National Guard for 32 years and retired from the Emanuel County School system after 32 years of service. He was also an independent insurance agent for decades. Roger was an active member of the Swainsboro Kiwanis club for over 40 years where he served on multiple committees and as an officer. He was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church and was senior warden. Roger was the adoring and beloved husband and father to his wife and children. While working in the Emanuel County School system, Roger "adopted" numerous sons and daughters. In addition to his parents, Mr. Peebles is preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Mason Peebles.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Ann Mason Peebles of Swainsboro; daughter, Cissy Peebles (Chris Adams) of Swainsboro; son, Dr. Roger Ray Peebles Jr. (Corey Illes) of Washington, DC; brother, Dr. Jimmy Peebles (Belinda) of Sparta; nieces, nephews and extended family.

Mary Ann, Roger Jr. and Cissy extend their deepest gratitude and appreciation to Lorene Peebles for her devoted care of Roger over the past year.
