REC Youth Leadership Council hosts event

During the week of May 11, students at Swainsboro High School were invited to participate in "positive message" activities during lunch. The newly formed "REC" youth leadership council hosted the event. "REC" stands for Resilient Emanuel Connection Crew. Twelve students at SHS and five at ECI were selected to the council to be a positive influence in their school by promoting positive mental health habits and support systems amongst their peers.

The table was full of items with positive messaging for students to take as a gift in exchange for writing a positive message on notes to be displayed on the poster hanging on the wall. Ink pens, stickers, and notebooks were well received by the students. Additionally, teachers were given lanyards with encouraging messages on them from the group. The last giveaway was for lucky students whose names were drawn for Walmart cards.

This great activity was sponsored by Family Connection as part of their work under the Resilient Southeast Georgia grant.
