Read United tutorial program is off to a strong start

Posted

Emanuel County Schools has partnered with United Way of Southeast Georgia and the Emanuel County Chamber of Commerce to provide additional literacy support with the Read United tutorial program for second-grade students at Swainsboro Primary School. This initiative combines school-based grade-level reading support with a structured tutoring model, creating a nurturing and effective learning environment for students. The primary goal is to ensure students are reading proficiently on or above grade level with the help of community volunteers.

The community volunteers have received training and resources to develop strategies that can help improve students' fluency skills, enabling them to become more fluent readers. The tutoring sessions are held twice a week during designated times, and each student is paired with a dedicated volunteer who provides a personalized learning experience. These tutors aim to instill a love for reading, improve students' confidence, and help them develop fluency in reading.
