The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the First Baptist Church Social Hall Monday morning, September 23, at 8:45 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, there were 58 in attendance. The First Baptist Church Brotherhood provided grits, eggs, sausage, biscuits, gravy, strawberries, grapes, blueberries, muffins, jelly, syrup, orange juice, apple juice, and coffee. After the prayer by FBC Pastor Casey and the Pledge to the U.S. Flag, Chair Johnny then introduced Marty Ray to talk about the election process in Emanuel County. Chair Johnny then talked about the "Wreaths Across America" event that will take place on December 14. U.S. Flags will be placed on veteran's graves at the Swainsboro City Cemetery on November 30 at 9 a.m. Last week, Assistant of the Veterans, Shari Watt, discussed the veterans attending five different Veterans Day events at five different schools on November 11, and also the possibility of having a Veterans Day parade in Swainsboro. If you would like to purchase a wreath for your veteran in any cemetery, please call the library and ask for Shari Watt. Also, Veteran Terry Reynolds is in charge of the upcoming 13th Annual Sportsman's Banquet and Auction that will be held at Beaver Creek Plantation, 3698 Hwy 80 East in Twin City, to be held Thursday night, October 10, 2024, at 5 p.m. This event will include social time, prime rib meal, with silent and live auction items.
