Parker seeking re-election for City Council District 5 seat

John E. Parker is seeking re-election to the position of City Council District 5 in the run-off election to be held December 5. He has served the citizens of Swainsboro in this capacity for the past eighteen years. Parker is a graduate of Swainsboro High School and Georgia Southern University where he majored in Mathematics and has been an educator for over 20 years.

John is the son of Ms. Mattie Mae Parker and the late Mr. Otis Lee Williams, Jr. He has seven brothers and two sisters. John has been on the Swainsboro City Council since December 5, 2005. John has served as a member of the Georgia Mathematics Teachers Association (August 2017-July 2019); Chairman, Emanuel County Black Elected Officials (March 2012-January 2014); Area Coordinator, Swainsboro Consistory #317, Scottish Rite Masonry (March 2012-December 2022); Emanuel County Parks and Recreation Commissioner, City of Swainsboro (January 2016 -December 2019); Mayor Pro-Tem, City of Swainsboro (January 2010-December 2010); Mayor Pro-Tem, City of Swainsboro (January 2016-December 2016); Public Works and Recycling Commissioner, City of Swainsboro (January 2011-December 2015); Evans County Family Connections, Executive Board Member, Evans, GA (January 2012-October 2014); and Fire Commissioner, Swainsboro Fire Department (January 2005-December 2010).

He currently serves the City of Swainsboro and the State of Georgia as City Councilman, Swainsboro City Council (November 2005-Present); Member of the Georgia Association of Educators (August 2019-Present); Member of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (August 2019-Present); Committee Member of the City of Swainsboro Administration (January 2022-Present); and

Member of the CSRA Economic Opportunity Authority, Inc. (November 2023- Present).

Parker is an Ordained Deacon at The Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church (August 1999-Present); Secretary at Saint Phillip Lodge No. 96, P.H.A. (December 2003-Present); Grand Assistant Treasurer of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge, Jurisdiction of Georgia. F&AM, PHA (September 2014-Present); Grand Inspectors General of the Thirty-Third Degree Scottish Rite Masonry (October 2012 -Present); Grand Treasurer of the GA Council of Deliberation (March 2016-Present); Member of the Emanuel County NAACP (September 2017 -Present); and Treasurer of the Louisville Masonic District No. 22 (March 2023-Present).
