Emanuel County Schools has expanded student wellness services with the opening of a new school-based health clinic on the campus of Swainsboro Elementary School in partnership with East Georgia Healthcare.

Located at the bus ramp, the East Georgia Healthcare Clinic at SES offers comprehensive primary medical care and mental health counseling to students and staff throughout Emanuel County Schools. Services include sick visits, routine checkups, immunizations, sports physicals, chronic condition management, preventive screenings, and behavioral and mental health counseling.

Jean Marie Hunter, East Georgia Healthcare’s School-Based Operations Coordinator, highlighted the partnership's community impact. “By meeting families where they are, the school-based health center strengthens students, families, and the broader community,” Hunter said.

Students are seen with written parent or guardian consent, and families retain full control over their child’s healthcare decisions. Parents may choose which services their child receives and are welcome to attend appointments. Clinic staff prioritize communication with families, and care is available regardless of insurance status.

Jamye Clark, nurse practitioner and clinic provider, expressed enthusiasm for serving students in a school setting. “Working in our school-based health center allows us to meet students where they are in a safe, familiar environment,” Clark said. “Being embedded in the school makes care more convenient for families, helps students miss less class time, and gives us the opportunity to build trusting relationships while providing compassionate care for the students and staff on Tiger Trail.”

“Our responsibility is to create the conditions where students can thrive academically and personally,” said assistant superintendent Jansen Ware. “This new clinic is one more way we are expanding support systems for families and strengthening our schools.” The on-campus clinic supports Emanuel County Schools’ commitment to keeping students healthy, in school, and ready to learn by reducing barriers such as transportation challenges and time away from work for families.
