Nasworthy speaks to Veterans

The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Library Monday morning, April 6, at 9 a.m. With Scotty Nasworthy presiding, they had 35 in attendance. Shari Watt provided a great breakfast of grits, breakfast casserole and freshly picked strawberries, grape juice, cranberry juice, apple juice, orange juice and coffee. They had a new veteran attend the meeting, Veteran Yvonne Lott. Lott joined Company A, 878th Combat Engineer Battalion, Hvy. in 1976 and served until 1979. She was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri and attended drills in Swainsboro. Lott’s highest rank was Spec. 4.

Scotty talked about the upcoming Veterans Cup Golf Tournament and the selling of the "hole" sponsorships. He then talked about the 40 service members that the Veterans are flying a U.S. Flag on the front fence at the Veterans and 1st Responders Memorial Park. They also added two new 250th Anniversary flags on poles at the Veterans Park entrance last week and the Veterans 8'X12' U.S. Flag is flying on the new 40' flagpole. Scotty also talked about the oldest veteran, Doyle John Tatum, that passed away on April 2, and his services will be Thursday, April 9.
