Swainsboro High School will present its Black History Month program, Voices Through Time: A Living Timeline, this Friday, February 20, at 8:30 a.m. in the Swainsboro High School Auditorium.

The program is designed to honor the legacy, struggles, and achievements of African American trailblazers throughout history while demonstrating how their voices continue to influence education, leadership, culture, and community today. Through a living timeline format, students will highlight key figures whose impact transcends generations.

The featured guest speaker for the program is Ms. Syvetta Young, a lifelong Swainsboro resident whose career and community involvement embody the very essence of the program’s theme. A proud product of the Emanuel County School System, Ms. Young dedicated 35 years of service to education, beginning her career as a sixth-grade teacher and later retiring as Principal of Swainsboro Elementary School in 2009.

Ms. Young pursued higher education at Savannah State University, Georgia College and State University, and Georgia Southern University, with studies in elementary education, middle grades education, educational technology, and educational leadership. Her influence extended far beyond the classroom, as she worked tirelessly to support students, families, and educators throughout Emanuel County.

In addition to her work in education, Ms. Young currently serves as Chairperson of the Emanuel County Department of Family and Children Services, is a member of the Franklin Memorial Library Board, and serves on the Sudie Fulford Advisory Board at Georgia Southern University’s East Georgia Campus. She is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and an active member of St. Paul–Noah’s Ark A.M.E. Church in Summertown, Georgia, where her faith continues to guide her service to others.

Swainsboro High School’s Voices Through Time program will serve as both a celebration and a reminder of the power of legacy, leadership, and service. The public is invited to attend.
