Swainsboro Middle School football began its season on Wednesday August 23, against Dublin. Unfortunately, the young Tigers fell short in a 22-8 loss.

Below is a game summary and comments from Coach Corey Chalker.

Dublin received the opening kickoff and was forced to punt. Kamaurion Duke, DJ Cuyler, and Kyle Johnson took turns driving the ball down the field, which led to a 15-yard touchdown run by Johnson. Kamaurion Dukes punched in the 2-point conversion, giving the Tigers an 8-0 early lead. Dublin would respond by hitting a long pass on 3rd down to put them in the red zone, and they would tie the game 8-8. Swainsboro's offense gained momentum on each drive but failed to put any points on the board as they would trail 14-8 at the half. After halftime, the Tigers received the kickoff and ran seven minutes and 15 seconds off the clock to get to the red zone, but would have costly mistakes that caused them to fail a fourth-down execution. The Tigers defense stood strong on the next possession. Dublin would have a bad snap on the punt to put Swainsboro back in the red zone with the ball on the six-yard line. Swainsboro would again make costly mistakes, which kept them from putting more points on the board. Dublin would score on the next drive to make the score 22-8, which would be the final score.

Comments:

"We have to do a better job of conditioning and hydrating ourselves as a team. I feel like we ran out of gas and we had a couple of guys cramping up. We will learn from this game and push ahead to East Laurens, which will be played at EL High School next Wednesday at 6:00."

Let's come out and support the team, cheerleaders, coaches, administrative staff, and everyone involved in the Middle School program. They are the future!
