Jessica Wilson, the Chief Assistant District Attorney for the Middle Judicial Circuit, was named Assistant District Attorney of the Year by the District Attorneys' Association of Georgia on Sunday. The statewide award recognizes outstanding service by an assistant district attorney.
Wilson has prosecuted for thirteen years. She serves as the circuit's child abuse prosecutor, handling child victim cases across Candler, Emanuel, Jefferson, Toombs, and Washington counties, while trying murder cases and carrying a full county caseload. Over the past year she played a central role in a multi-jurisdiction investigation, working alongside the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Georgia, that exposed a child sex trafficking operation rooted in Emanuel County and reaching across the state.
"Jessica has spent her career doing the work most lawyers spend their careers trying to avoid," said District Attorney Tripp Fitzner, who nominated her for the award. "She has tried child abuse cases. She has tried murders. She has stood in courtrooms across five counties with victims behind her and defendants in front of her, and she has never flinched. This circuit is better because she chose to stay and fight here, and it is long past time she was recognized for it."
The Middle Judicial Circuit serves Candler, Emanuel, Jefferson, Toombs, and Washington counties. The District Attorneys' Association of Georgia represents the state's prosecuting attorneys and presents its annual awards to recognize excellence in prosecution across Georgia.
