From the July 27, 1961 edition of The Forest-Blade:

J.D. MCLEOD IS NAMED TO CITY’S PLANNING GROUP
J.D. McLeod was named to the Swainsboro Planning Commission. He was named at a meeting of the Commission and succeeded Meredith Price who tendered his resignation some time before. The Planning Commission has as its duties the formulation of long-range city planning, advising the mayor and council on codes for new subdivisions and sanitation, zoning ordinances and similar programs.

PHONE PREFIX WILL CHANGE HERE SOON
Telephone numbers in Swainsboro partially changed beginning Aug. 1, taking place over a period of time. Southern Bell Manager J.M. Williams said that Swainsboro telephone numbers would have seven numerals rather than the present name and five numerals. The change meant that the two numerals would be substituted for the name, and the last five numerals would remain the same. The letters changed to 23, which made the prefix 237, followed by the present last four numerals.
