Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mrs. Melanie Dawn Nimmons, age 73, of Soperton, on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at her residence. Graveside services were conducted Saturday, September 9, at 11 a.m. in the Boiling Springs Church Cemetery in Soperton with Brother Vic Fordham officiating.
Pallbearers were Brian Nimmons, Matthew Nimmons and Daniel Nimmons.
Born in Augusta, Mrs. Nimmons was the daughter of the late Gerald R., Sr. and Sarah Grace Phillips Brown. She graduated from the George Butler High School in Augusta. Melanie was a talented and intelligent woman. In addition to being a cosmetologist, Melanie worked as a secretary with the Board of Education in Augusta and in Soperton. She also worked as a substitute teacher in Swainsboro. Melanie was able to homeschool their son Blake, and later worked as a bookkeeper for her husband at Nimmons Foreign Car Service. She was a longtime member of the Morningside Baptist Church in Soperton. In her free time, she enjoyed arts and crafts. Mrs. Nimmons is preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Charlie H. Nimmons, III of Soperton; daughters, Denise N. Torres (Jose) of Decula and Lisa Roberts Smith (Mike) of Augusta; sons, Blake Nimmons of Soperton and Brannon Joel Roberts of Augusta; sister, Frankie Wassen (John Allen) of Augusta; brother, Gerald Brown of Soperton; and grandchildren, Evan and Emily Torres.
Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.
