Mrs. Maxie Ann Roberson Lane, age 86, of Garfield, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023, at AU Medical Center in Augusta following a brief illness. Funeral service was conducted Sunday, September 17, at 3 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church with Reverend Ben Gay officiating. Mrs. Lane lie in state one hour prior to the service. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, September 16, at Chapman Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery

Pallbearers were Ricky Lane, Steve Lane, Justin Lane, Parker Lane, Jairus Lane and Corey Lane.

Mrs. Maxie was born August 2, 1937, in Twin City, to the late Ebb Roberson and Melba Sutton. She graduated from Emanuel County Institute in 1956. Maxie worked at Twin City Manufacturing Company before leaving to become a homemaker to take care of her family. She was known for being a supportive wife to her husband while he worked long hours on the farm, making sure he had plenty to drink and eat and running his errands. Maxie enjoyed working in her flowers and fishing and liked to watch football on Saturdays. She also enjoyed baking cakes and cooking. Mrs. Lane had a tremendous love for her grandchildren. She was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. Mrs. Lane is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Eva Blackburn and Bettye Steele; brothers, Paul Roberson and Van Roberson.

Mrs. Lane is survived by her husband of 60 years, Bobby Delano Lane of Garfield; sons, Jefferey Lane (Faye) of Garfield, Mark Lane (Sandy) of Twin City and Matthew Lane (Kelly) of Garfield; daughter, Beth Lane of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Heather Sapp (Randy) and Mattie Grace Lane; great-grandchildren, Hunter Lane, Mason Lane, Cayden Lane, Jaxon Sapp and Logan Sapp; sisters-in-law, Ann Fordham (Jerry) and Betty Lane; lifelong friend, June Ellen Clark; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
