Tomlinson Funeral Home & Crematory announces the death of Mrs. Martha Taylor Wilson, age 83, of Swainsboro, on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her loved ones. Memorial services will be Saturday, March 2, at 10 a.m. at Summertown Baptist Church with Rev. John Durden officiating.

Martha was born on February 10, 1941, in Dickson, TN, to the late Joel R. Taylor and Maureen Scarborough. She met her husband in 1959 at Murray University in Murray, KY and was married 37 years. They moved to Swainsboro in 1965. Martha was an educator in the public school system in Emanuel County for 27 years, having received her master’s in education and EDS from Georgia Southern University. Although she was a teacher by profession, her influence extended far beyond a classroom. Martha didn't just teach lessons from textbooks, she also taught lessons of life. Unwavering faith, strong will, patience, courage- these were some of the principles she lived by and instilled in those around her. Martha’s life journey was not only a testament of faith, but a testimony of the Lord and all His greatness. She treasured each day the Lord gave her to the fullest and looked for every way she could to draw nearer to Him. Martha had an unexplainable peace about her. She knew her blessings were from the Lord, and she lived to share them and bless others anyway she could. Martha took great pride in teaching his word and stressing the need to help others. Her immeasurable faith and trust in the lord were unwavering. She had a sharp sense of humor. Martha loved to laugh and make others laugh. Her smile and positivity were infectious. She had a zest for life, a spirit that was indominable. Martha was a strong-willed and strong-minded lady. Some would call her hardheaded, she would have agreed. She found joy in the simple things and her loved ones to appreciate the little moments that make life so beautiful. One of her favorite "little things" was bundling up in her covered swing to read a book in the rain. Martha loved the rain and loved to read. She was truly a blessing from God, and we rest assured, as did she, that we will be reunited. Mrs. Wilson is preceded by her parents; husband, Don Wilson; and granddaughter, Eve.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by her daughter, Beth Wilson (Kathleen); son, James T. Wilson (Nancy); grandson, Russ Wilson; sister, Nancy; niece, Laura; and nephew, Joel.

The family invites friends to make memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to the Wounded Warrior Project if they so desire.
