The 2023 Miss East Georgia State College Scholarship Pageant was held Saturday, April 15, in the Luck F. Gambrell Center Auditorium on the EGSC Swainsboro campus. Miriam Imani Marlin was crowned the new Miss East Georgia State College and was awarded the Interview Award and the People’s Choice Award. Samantha Moore, a natural sciences major from Wadley, was named first runner-up and Jacque Copeland from Louisville was named second runner-up and Miss Congeniality.

Marlin is the 19-year-old-daughter of Dr. Sidney and Lawana Marlin of Metter. She is a freshman at EGSC pursuing a degree in elementary education. Marlin’s platform is “Five Steps Ahead: Helping Middle and High School Students Plan Their Future.”

The eight contestants in the Miss EGSC competition competed for the crown in the categories of interview, on stage question, casual wear, and evening gown. Each contestant selected a platform project they planned to complete during their rein if they were chosen to represent EGSC. For their platform, they organized a plan for volunteering and completion of the project that they presented to the judges.

Marlin’s platform is “Five Steps Ahead!” a program where she will help middle and high school students discover their future paths. Students will complete a five-step pathway where they will explore their interest of what career they would like to pursue through exciting activities, field trips, and group projects.

The Miss EGSC Pageant Committee would like to thank All Star Dance Academy for their entertainment and Mr. Roosevelt Young for his performance of the Miss EGSC song. The committee would also like to thank Jim Roberts at Southern Traditions for the beautiful flowers he provided to the queen and her court.
