She was a teacher and counselor with Emanuel County Schools, retiring after 31 years. Marisue received her Bachelors degree from Georgia College for Women in Milledgeville and her Master’s degree from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro. She lived her entire life, aside from her years in college, in her family home on North Central Street that was originally built by her grandfather in the 1930’s. Among many things that Marisue loved, her favorites were being with her children and grandchildren, reading, sewing, beading, antiquing, and traveling with her husband. One of her greatest joys was cooking for Cal. He had a description for her meals that was solely reserved for her. Cal would describe her meals as “it was some kinda superdynawhoppin’ fine”.

Survivors include her husband, Cal Avery of Swainsboro; daughter, Tracy Avery of Twin City; son, Will Avery of Galway, Ireland; grandchildren, Joseph Stewart, Carlin Stewart, Arlo Avery, and Asher Avery; brother, Gene Smith of Jefferson; and extended family and close friends.
