The Emanuel County School District is participating in a celebration across the state to recognize local school board members' hard work and commitment. Georgia has declared the week of March 11-15, as School Board Appreciation Week. The purpose of this weeklong celebration is to express gratitude to the Emanuel County Board of Education members for their service and dedication.
“As Superintendent of this district, I am privileged to work alongside a group of dedicated individuals who consistently demonstrate unwavering support, guidance, and appreciation,” says Superintendent Scotty Hattaway. “During this School Board Appreciation week, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible support you provide me and the entire educational community. Your commitment to excellence, strategic vision, and advocacy for education have not only shaped our schools but also profoundly impacted the lives of our students and staff. Your unwavering support has created an environment where innovation, collaboration, and growth thrive. Your willingness to listen, thoughtful guidance, and collaborative approach make working with you a true pleasure. Your support enables me to navigate challenges, celebrate successes, and continuously strive for improvement in our educational system.” Superintendent Hattaway thanked the School Board Members for making all of our students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders feel supported, valued, and appreciated. “Your dedication to our schools, students, and community is truly inspiring. The current Board of Education members and how long they have served our school district are as follows: District 1 – Brandon Jones - 1st year; District 2 – Cherie Hooks - 2nd year; District 3 – Del Brown, Chairman - 7th year; District 4 – Tanya Lane - 5th year; District 5 – Johnny Parker, Vice-Chair - 9th year; District 6 – Sandra Swinney - 5th year; District 7 – John Allen Bailey - 7th year.
As constitutional officers of Georgia, school board members are responsible for setting educational policies, employing school personnel, providing buildings and equipment, operating a transportation system, and disbursing school funds. As community leaders, school board members advocate for the children in local public schools. They must study, evaluate, and decide what actions are in the best interest of those students.
