The Wiregrass Chapter, Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution, held its monthly meeting Thursday night, October 12, at 6:30 p.m. at the New China Restaurant. With Interim President Steve Burke presiding, they had 16 in attendance. Steve called on Compatriot Gary Mason to bless the food and then they enjoyed a great buffet meal. After the meal, Steve asked Compatriot Dess to introduce the speaker. Dess introduced Mike Lisenby, who presented his program on the "Freedom Shrine". Mike talked about four documents: the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, Treaty of Paris, 1781 and the Constitution. Steve then gave an update on three events they participated the past weekend: the Colby Smith reunion on Saturday, October 7, the grave Marking for Patriot Joseph Avant on Sunday, October 8, and the Siege of Savannah on Monday, October 9. Steve then gave an update on several upcoming events including For Morris on Saturday November 18, Wreaths Across America in Emanuel County on December 16, and the Christmas covered dish meeting on December 14, at the First Methodist Church social hall. The meeting was closed with the SAR Recessional.

Steve called on the 2024 nominations committee chair Gary Mason to give his committee’s report. Chair Gary reported that his committee had been working hard in contacting the 2023 officers to see who wanted to continue. Also, Gary mentioned that if anyone wanted to run for any of the positions, they can announce it at the November meeting. Elections will be held at the December meeting.
