Mr. Lenton “Slim” Sherrod, age 80, entered into peacefully rest after an extended illness on Sunday, November 26, 2023. A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, December 2, at 11 a.m. in. the Sherrod Family Cemetery in Summertown with Pastor Cedric Carswell officiating and Minister Guye Akins presiding.
Mr. Sherrod was born May 10, 1943, in Emanuel County, to the late Friendly and Melvina Oglesby Sherrod. He attended the Emanuel County School System and was a member of Forts Grove Baptist Church. Slim was quiet, loving, kind, respectful, helpful and a very hard worker that went the extra mile to support his family whom he loved. He was employed by Rayonier as a truck driver and worked many years until his retirement. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sherrod is preceded in death by his brothers, Herbert Sherrod, James Sherrod, Lindsey Sherrod and Friendly Sherrod, Jr; and sister, Lonnie Belle Gunn.
Mr. Sherrod leaves his precious memories to be cherished with his children, Lenton Sherrod Jr, Derrick Woods (Andrea), Doris Tanksley (Larry), Denise Sherrod, Catina Mason (Donald), Diane Woods (Joe), Barbara Woods and Felicia Woods; brothers, John Henry Sherrod Sr, Larry Sherrod and Robert Sherrod; sisters, Robertha Smith, Gail Hill and Calendar Freeman; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
