Lady Tigers split a pair of region contests

In last week’s softball action, the Swainsboro Lady Tigers played two region games. They picked up a win over Dublin and were defeated by Bleckley County. On Wednesday evening, they hosted the Lady Irish of Dublin High School in a make-up game that was originally scheduled for September 14, but had been postponed due to rain. Senior pitcher Callie Powell pitched well once again and picked up her fifth win in her last six decisions. Powell allowed just one run on three hits over five innings while striking out six batters. The Lady Tigers scored nine runs on eight hits (four doubles) and five walks and played exceptional defense. The Lady Tigers were led at the plate by Gracie Beneteau and Aa’caylah Murphy who had two hits each. Hannah Howard, Jocie Hendrix, Savannah Hooks, and Cassidy Jordan each had one hit as well in the 9-1 Swainsboro win.

Thursday, Swainsboro hosted the #8 ranked Bleckley County Royals. The Lady Tigers fell behind early and were never able to recover. The Tiger defense, which has played well for most of the season, definitely had an off night and the Lady Tiger pitchers were able to do very little to keep the Royal batters off balance. Offensively, The Lady Tigers scored just two runs on five hits. Hannah Howard, Gracie Beneteau, Jocie Hendrix, Savannah Hooks, and Berklie Bishop each had one hit. The loss drops Swainsboro to 4-4 in region play.

Tuesday evening, Swainsboro was scheduled to host East Laurens at 5:30 (score was not available at press time). The Lady Tigers will now hit the road for a non-region game at Treutlen County Wednesday afternoon at 5:30, a region game at Jefferson County Thursday at 5:30, and another region game at East Laurens next Monday at 5:30.
