The annual Battle of the Boro rivalry lived up to its billing Saturday night inside The Den, as the Swainsboro Lady Tigers secured a 78 to 59 victory over the Statesboro Blue Devils in a high-energy, physical contest fueled by pride and tradition.

From the opening tip, Swainsboro established its presence with defensive intensity, unselfish ball movement, and strong communication on both ends of the floor. The Lady Tigers played with purpose, protecting home court while matching Statesboro’s tempo and physicality throughout the game. Execution improved as the night progressed, and Swainsboro controlled the pace during key stretches.

“Overall, the team did exceptionally well,” said head coach Alexandria Walden. “Our intensity, energy, defensive effort, and offensive execution were all at a very high level, better than they’ve been. Our passing, ball movement, player movement, and communication made a huge difference. We were able to play together and for each other, and everyone was determined to protect home court by any means necessary.”

Offensively, the Lady Tigers shared the ball effectively and capitalized on transition opportunities, while defensively they stayed disciplined, applied pressure, and forced turnovers. Statesboro made several runs throughout the night, including cutting into a double-digit Swainsboro lead, but the Lady Tigers answered each challenge with composure and collective focus.

“What impressed me most was how well they listened and came out ready to play while executing the game plan from start to finish,” Walden added. “They battled with Statesboro, and my girls were able to control the tempo. We wanted this win badly, and I think that showed in how we competed.”

All players contributed to the team effort, reflecting the balance and depth of the Lady Tigers. Kimiya Freeman led the scoring with 30 points while also contributing rebounds, assists, steals, and a block. McKinley Walden added 25 points along with rebounds, assists, steals, and a block, impacting the game on both ends of the floor. KK Murphy finished with 17 points, providing consistent effort, leadership, and defensive presence throughout the contest.

Millie Kingsbury, Lay Freeman, and Kali Brown each added two points and made valuable contributions that extended beyond the stat sheet. Their defensive effort, hustle, and attention to detail played key roles in maintaining momentum and supporting the team during critical moments. Their impact reinforced the team-first identity that defined the night.

The game was not without adversity. Foul trouble and a late push from Statesboro tested Swainsboro’s composure, but the Lady Tigers stayed connected and confident through every possession.

“This game showed us what it takes to play a complete game from start to finish,” Walden said. “We faced adversity with foul calls and losing a double-digit lead at times, but we were able to overcome it and continue playing with confidence. Every quarter was a battle, and that’s the mindset we want to carry moving forward.”

As the season progresses toward region and state playoff play, the win serves as both a confidence boost and a teaching moment.

“We know we still have work to do, and there are things we can continue to improve on from game to game,” Walden said. “But this was definitely a mindset changer for our team.”

In a rivalry built on pride and tradition, the Lady Tigers delivered when it mattered most, defending The Den and setting the tone moving forward.
