The Kiwanis Club of Swainsboro held its weekly meeting Tuesday night, May 5, at the Franklin Memorial Library at 6:30 p.m. With President Dianna Wedincamp presiding, there were 10 in attendance, including guests. Tim Goodman won the basket of Braswell’s Jams, Jellies, and Preserves, Cheryl Goodman won the carrot cake, Dianna Wedincamp won the Domino’s pizza and Jeff Palmer won the Mother’s Day gift. Every mother present was given a rose by the Club. To “decompress” from the Pine Tree Festival (PTF) and celebrate Mother’s Day, the Club used the meeting time to share what happened at the festival.

Paul Cerpovicz and Joelle Romanchik-Cerpovicz gave a report on the Kid’s Gardening Project at the display at the PTF. Funded by Mill Creek Foundation, they gave away 120 kid’s gardening kits that included seed planting instructions, books, and recipes for preparation and use of the produce and herbs. Tim Goodman gave a report on the Knotty Pine 5K Run. Even with the rain, we had 66 runners. The Overall Male winner was 20-year-old Schuyler Coney from Swainsboro, and the Overall Female winner was 12-year-old Aracery Estrada from Brooklet. A special thanks to all Kiwanians who helped and to Alan Brasher, John Cadle and Gabriel Moen, who helped Cheryl Goodman sort out the medals, and Martin Neal who called the names of the winners while Tim Goodman and Dwight Watt were making pictures with the winning runners.

The Franklin Memorial Library is going to have summer reading activities and our cookout for the participants at the end of the summer. Their calendar is full of reading and crafts for kids and adults in the summer. Everything from how to make bows and candles to planting seeds and painting. Kiwanis has donated a gift certificate for the gift basket to be given away. We received a thank you for the cotton candy in February from CASA and a thank you letter from the Emanuel County School System for Pre-K Fun Day.
