The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Franklin Memorial Library Monday, March 2, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 42 in attendance. Shari Watt provided a great breakfast of pancakes and sausage from the "RED BOX", and the food was outstanding. She also provided the orange juice, grape juice, cranberry juice and coffee. Melisa Kirby from the Emanuel County Development Authority talked about the upcoming Easter Egg Hunt on March 28 at the fountain. Kiwanis helped last year and will help them hide more than 4,000 eggs this year. Chair Johnny talked about the upcoming Veterans Cup Golf Tournament on May 16, and they will be selling "Golf Hole" sponsor signs soon. Kiwanis failed to let you know that two weeks ago at the meeting at the HookStop, the Girl Scouts attended the Veterans at the Library meeting and took girl scout cookies of which Kiwanis purchased many boxes. Thanks to the Girl Scouts for this National Project. The Veterans have also purchased a new U.S. Flag for the Park; it’s a 5' X 12' flag and will fly on the new 40' flagpole."
