Members of Keep Emanuel Beautiful gathered on Tuesday, February 20, for their regularly scheduled 5:30 p.m. meeting in the County Commissioners Board Room at the Coleman County Office Building. The volunteer citizens group is busy with planning for events in March and April to further their efforts to combat the growing litter problem in Emanuel County. The group continues to schedule spot clean-ups in the county to increase public awareness of the waste of resources and the damage to the environment that litter causes. In the February meeting, Chairman Tony Hutcheson discussed the recent litter pick up on Kemp Road that resulted in a great volunteer effort by the Girl Scouts, KEB members and Kemp area volunteers. Their dedication resulted in a significant improvement in the appearance of the area. Hutcheson also suggested moving the date for the annual Clean Sweep Campaign until after the Pine Tree Festival. The county-wide cleanup is traditionally held in April, but members agreed that delaying the event might result in higher volunteer participation. KEB President George Elder reported on the success of an on-going campaign posting anti-litter yard signs throughout the county. The group is committed to keeping up the fight to keep Emanuel beautiful. Keep Emanuel Beautiful meets the third Tuesday of each month at the John C. Coleman County Office Building in Swainsboro at 5:30 p.m.
